Golden Beach Paliouri Halkidiki: Blue Flag at the Cape
Profile
Golden Beach (Chryssi Ammos), Paliouri, Halkidiki: The Blue Flag Shore at the Southernmost Tip of Kassandra, 110km From Thessaloniki, With Pine Trees Behind the Dunes and Camping on the Left
Greece | Paliouri | Kassandra, Halkidiki, Central Macedonia
Halkidiki is the prefecture with the most Blue Flag beaches in Greece — 104 in 2024, more than anywhere else in the country. Halkidiki emerged as the top prefecture in Greece with 104 Blue Flags. Golden Beach at Paliouri is one of them — the beach at the southernmost tip of the first of the three fingers, where the Kassandra peninsula narrows and the Aegean is visible on both the eastern and western sides of the cape.
The Golden Beach lodge stands near the village of Paliouri, on the Halkidiki peninsula. This seashore is extremely admired and has a breathtaking view, which is why it’s always full of tourists. It’s renowned for its golden sand that is soft and smooth to the touch. The beach is supplied with all the essentials to make your stay enjoyable: sunbeds, umbrellas, and nautical sports. On the left side of the beach is a camping site, and a bit to the right are Lefki Ammos and Cabana — two prominent bars for the younger crowd who enjoy club music. The picturesque landscape and the pines that shield the area from the heat of the sun create a tranquil and welcoming atmosphere.
The honest character note: Golden Beach Paliouri is not the wild, undeveloped cove the source article implies. It is a well-known, fully serviced beach with camping, beach clubs including two party bars, and consistent tourist traffic. What it is — relative to central Kassandra towns like Hanioti and Pefkohori — is quieter, further from the main resort strip, and surrounded by pine forest rather than hotels.
Getting There: 110km From Thessaloniki Airport, Drive Through Kassandra Past Pefkohori, Turn at Chryssi Ammos Signs
Kassandra is the westernmost leg of Halkidiki’s trident, beckoning with an alluring mix of Blue Flag beaches, vibrant seaside villages, and soothing natural springs.
From Thessaloniki International Airport, the drive takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes — about 110 kilometres. Take the main highway toward Nea Moudania and continue south through Kassandra. Pass through Hanioti and Pefkohori heading south toward Paliouri. Approximately 4 kilometres before the village of Paliouri, signs for Chryssi Ammos or Golden Beach indicate the turn.
There is ample flat, unpaved parking directly behind the beach bars. The access from the car to the sand is flat and easy — practical for families with equipment and elderly visitors.
The Beach: Fine Golden Sand, Pine Trees Behind, Wide Enough to Walk, Camping Left, Party Bars Right
Golden Beach is an ideal spot for strolling due to its remarkable width. The picturesque landscape and the pines that shield the area from the heat of the sun create a tranquil and welcoming atmosphere.
The width is the specific practical quality. Unlike the narrow beaches of some Cycladic coves, Golden Beach Paliouri has room — room to walk, room to find a quieter section if the bar areas are too loud, room for families to spread without feeling crowded against neighbouring towels.
The camping site on the left side provides the budget accommodation option and contributes to the mixed demographic character — campers, day visitors from the central Kassandra resorts, families, and the younger crowd drawn to the evening club bars.
The Kassandra Tip: Both Seas Visible, Cape Paliouri Between East and West
Cape Paliouri is the southernmost point of the Kassandra peninsula. At the tip of the cape, both the eastern and western coastlines of the peninsula are visible — the Thermaic Gulf to the west and the open Aegean toward Sithonia to the east. The road around the cape from Golden Beach to the western coast of Kassandra passes through the pine forest and offers the elevated views that explain the peninsula’s geography.
The Rest of Kassandra’s South: Chrousso, Possidi, Paliouri Village
Nestled amid pine-scented hills, Paliouri reveals the mesmerizing Chrousso Beach, an idyllic fusion of golden sands, crystalline waters, and lush greenery. This seaside haven offers a variety of water sports and beach volleyball for the adventurous, while those seeking seclusion can discover intimate, hidden coves nearby.
Chrousso beach (also called Xenia or Kanavitsa) is the adjacent cove offering a family-friendly sheltered sandy bay — the calmer alternative to Golden Beach for visitors who want pine trees and shallow water without the beach club energy.
Sithonia Comparison: Two Different Characters of the Same Region
The Sithonia beaches — Tigania Beach Greece and Klimataria Beach Greece — are on the second Halkidiki finger, 40 to 50 kilometres east. Where Kassandra has more resort infrastructure and party energy, Sithonia‘s southern tip has the more remote, harder-to-reach coves that require narrow roads and early arrival. Kassandra’s Golden Beach is more accessible and more developed; Sithonia’s small coves are wilder and emptier.
Golden Beach (Chryssi Ammos) at Paliouri, Kassandra, Halkidiki is the Blue Flag beach at the southernmost tip of the first Halkidiki finger — 110 kilometres from Thessaloniki Airport, fine golden sand wide enough to stroll, pine trees providing shade behind the dunes, camping site on the left, Lefki Ammos and Cabana party bars on the right, full facilities throughout, quieter than central Kassandra but not wild, and Cape Paliouri 4 kilometres south for the view of both sides of the peninsula.
Drive south through Kassandra. Pass Pefkohori. Follow the signs 4km before Paliouri village.
