Tourlida
Profile
Tourlida Beach (Τουρλίδα) is a very unique coastal spot that differs significantly from your typical sandy Greek shore. Located at the end of a long, 5km causeway that cuts through the Messolonghi Lagoon, it offers a “floating” experience between the calm lagoon waters and the open sea.
The area as incredibly atmospheric and almost otherworldly, characterized by the famous “pelades”—traditional wooden fishermen’s houses built on stilts over the water.
Distinctive Landscape
The beach is part of a protected wetland area, meaning you’ll often see flamingos, herons, and other migratory birds while swimming or walking along the shore.
Sea Conditions
The water here is known for being extremely shallow and warm for a long distance, which makes it very safe for children, though some reviewers mention the seabed can be a bit muddy or grassy due to the lagoon environment.
Salt & Wellness
Because of the nearby salt pans, many locals and visitors believe the water and the black mud found in certain spots have therapeutic properties for the skin and joints.
Services
While it has a wilder feel than urban beaches, there are basic facilities including some sunbeds provided by local cafes and the iconic fish restaurant located right at the edge of the land.
